I’m an HP

I’m an HP. me and my HP

When I graduated from high school I was so excited about shopping for my brand new laptop that was going to take me through my four years of college (which is now going to be five years of college). I knew that I couldn’t afford a Mac and nor did I really care about getting one—I just wanted something fairly fast, cute and BIG. For some reason I really liked the widescreen computers back in the day, I was so naive. Any who, I found the perfect computer for me. This computer contained all the things my dad knew I needed and all the things I knew I wanted. It was an HP.

 I’m an HP.

So, when I got to college I slowly realized that the widescreen probably wasn’t the best way to go because it made it harder to carry around to classes, but overall I never had any problems. While others accidently stepped on, dropped and spilled mystery drinks on their computers I managed to keep mine accident free. As the years went by people with Dells seemed to have the most trouble with their computers. Surprisingly, the almighty, ever so popular Mac seemed to breakdown not too long after Dells did. But my HP kept going strong!

Then came the summer before senior year… I went off to Croatia and stupidly left my laptop in my apartment. I knew that my roommate would be there to watch after my room and my parents wouldn’t need to use my laptop for anything so I left it. Honestly, I meant to bring it after my dad said he thought it’d be a good idea to bring it home but I was in such a hurry to head to the most beautiful place on earth that I forgot to bring it. When I came home I arrived to a computer case with no computer in it and a computer charger with no computer to plug it in.

 I’m an HP.

You can imagine how upset I was when I realized that my computer was stolen while I was studying abroad. All my files, papers, projects gone, just like that. But somehow I managed to make it through the summer (and Anatomy, ugh) without my beloved computer. For my birthday my parents decided to buy me a new computer because they love me and would do anything for me;-) I was really surprised because the same summer my brother went off the start his first year in college and they had to buy him a laptop too. I know that it must have been hard for them to gather more money to buy me one too, so here’s a shout out to my parents, “I love you and ya’ll are the best!!!”

We started shopping, and this time I took a lot more things into consideration when searching for the perfect computer for me. Of course, it being cute was yet again a huge priority, but I also wanted something smaller, faster, media savvy and with plenty of USB and various cable ports. As a Grady student, I use Macs in some of my classes and have become somewhat familiar with them. I struggled to decide if I should convert to a Mac user or stick to my trusty HP.

To me, Macs are overly complicated, slow, unreliable and really not worth the extra $1000.  Needless to say, I decided to go with another HP and so far no problems. Well, I have to go. My friend’s Mac is acting up again so she needs me to look online for another internet port, battery charger, and Mac technician who can fix her three year old Mac.

Without a doubt, I’m an HP.

Nice post! I’m an HP too! I just got a new computer and I totally feel you about the Mac thing. No offense to the Mac owners out there, but I really don’t have the extra 1,000 dollars laying around. Plus, I figure that if my HP gets a virus, it may still be less than a Mac to get a second one :) I love all of the cool gadgets Apple puts out, but when it comes to laptops, I haven’t yet figured out why I should switch. I think the new “I’m a PC” campaign hits on some of the feelings I have and those of many of my friends. Macs are definitely cool, hip, now – but now I can get much of the same functionality for half of the price. Plus Windows 7 is pretty cool.

I love this post! Super Cute! I am also an HP and I am about to get a new laptop for Christmas. I am having a huge struggle deciding whether or not to convert to the Mac world.

I do think that Macs are harder to type on and they have this thing where you can have multiple screens and they fly away and that really gets on my nerves, but being in Grady has made me feel like Mac is taking over the world..but who knows.

I read an interesting article last week about Dell’s reconstruction plan and I’ll try to post that article on here for you to see but it makes you think a little towards the Dell world. I am definately not a Dell lover but it really does grab your attention.

It makes me think Dell may be making big changes and be fighting back in the “Mac world”.

Alright, so I promise you I’m not trying to start this huge long argument… but from someone who was also an HP girl and using a Mac, I promise you I can see both sides to the issue.

Macs, initially, were more appealing than HPs because of the anti-virus thing (that’s what appealed to me anyway). I didn’t have to buy any other anti-virus software because the system is/was so new… Buying an HP would’ve meant that I would’ve had to spend all the extra money on it.

I like the reliability of the Mac, and how fast it runs. It’s really more simple than you think it is. Put it this way- if my mom can figure it out, you probably can too. So I promise the intuitive aspect that everyone says is appealing about Macs is definitely true.

However, on your HP end of things, I can definitely see your advantages as well. Alicea, I’m totally with you in terms of the large screen. That’s something that I absolutely love about HP laptops out there. Also (and this is is corny so don’t judge me), I LOVE how HP computers click when you type. Is that weird? I love the noise that it makes when you’re typing something up. It’s so satisfying.

Each system definitely takes getting used to, Mac AND HP. We’re just more used to the Windows system. As for the screens that fly away.. believe me, as a Mac user, you find out what you like and don’t like. That is something I don’t like.

I can definitely see both sides of the issue, pricing being the biggest thing. But I do believe HPs are giving Macs a run for their money. Better for us- the more challenges each system goes through, the more it’s perfected for us, the consumers.

This was always a “point of contention” between my ex-partner and I in our relationship (of course, not seriously). He was a Windows person and I have always had a Mac in my household (my first computer had one of those rainbow Apples and my teachers always asked me “is that gonna be com-pat-i-ble?”). I’ve never really been hostile since Mac OS is all I know, but he was, so one day I tried it…and it really wasn’t all that bad.

How anticlimactic, I know. But that’s how it was.
